hope your job is going well, i've been using the new live compressor quite a lot and its nice and smooth. lot better than before.

i hope they let you loose on sampler, get some of the more esoteric SC features in there  afro

Tough decision Claes, but I think you chose well.  I bought it long enough ago that i don't feel cheated at all.  I actually am happy about it because now more people will use it and maybe music overall will sound better in teh next coming years  grin

BTW, what do you do at Ableton?  I rocked Ableton and SC1 all weekend, along with some Surge as well...  I guess you can say I "Claesed" it.   afro

i know you said you wont open source it (and i totally understand why)

but

any chance of liasing with one of the new crop of linux VST devs to allow them to compile a native linux VST version ?

It would also function as a nice way to give exposure to Surge and I might even be nice enough to throw in a discount for SC owners.
this would be nice actually.  I'm testing out Surge right now (for the first time embarassed) and it so rocks!  $ is tight, but with a discount, I would definitely buy and make it my #1:numero uno synth! wink

Well, quanta's got a point. Especially 2,3,4,5 IMO and about the further development. Today, software tends to become more buggy as time passes and if the development is stopped. That's what's happening to EnergyXT 1.4.1 for example - a year ago it was more stable than today as new VST plugins are being developed and new "stuff" introduced in the code.

Cheers!

Sad news  sad

I paid for short curcuit ages ago and was looking forward to SC2 and the beat slicing.

I was also hoping for a mac port as I recently made the switch.

I think you should release the source code so at least it could be developed by others.

Work on the projects you really enjoy. We'll get the best results that way anyway.

Why wont you open source it?

I give my music away for free (well next to nothing). But seriously, is your decision not to open source it based on you signing an agreement with Ableton?  I ask because its clear to me that drum racks has taken ideas from SC2 and I think you probably had a hand in drum racks now that you work for Ableton. Drum racks is fine but SC2 is better in my opinion.  It depends how people like to work of course but I dont really gel with Abletons interface now that its become a bit fiddly to use.

The code contains way too much clever stuff which I intend to keep secret.

Besides, open-sourcing existing closed-source software almost never works. It's complicated for experienced programmers to get into someone elses codebase, let alone hobbyists who it would confuse the hell out of, and the experienced folks tend to have way too many projects of their own already. What would happen is that people would take all the clever algorithms and use them in their own projects.

The resampling, oscillators & filters would probably end up in lots of synthedit creations and there would never be a single worthwhile update. Hate to be a cynic, but I'm certain enough of this to state is as a fact.

I understand and I think your right when you say if it went open source it would never get the proper update.  It would probably turn out a mish mash of code from different programmers.

Well, I know you have your day job with Ableton but perhaps during your holiday you can take another look at SC2 hahahah.  Its to good a sampler to not finish. do you realise how frustrating this is for me.  You have built a true samplists musical tool so you have to finish it someday. Surely it must bother you having an unfinished project like this hanging over your head, and such a worthy project at that.  if I have unfinished tunes in a folder I cant sleep at night hahaha, Are you feeling even a teensy bit guilty.

claes you haven't said anything about the sample library for SC1. If you don't dig it, no probs. Tell me what sucks and I'll try to work harder. FYi, the "c2.wav" not found error has been fixed and I sent out an email on that.

And I (and many others I'm sure) would like to second RHZ's thoughts on SC2. There simply ain't a sampler as good as this. Period. You seriously can't get this go to waste. If SC2 were fixed, I'd devote all my sampling time into making sound libs for it, perhaps freely.  cool
