I'm a Music Technology teacher, and I've been looking for a good sampler for a long time.  I recently happened across shortcircuit, and it fits the bill completely - really easy to use, an excellent tool both for sound manipulation but also teaching as the UI is so clear and functional, and the modulation capabilities make it a really powerful device.  There's only one problem - the effects, or rather one of them.  Calling it bitfucker rather limits the possibilities to use in an educational context!

A damn shame it's not being developed any more, as a version with this altered to something less offensive would make it ideal.

maybe it's time to stop hiding from the children something they already know anyway?  huh

It's not a case of hiding them from something they already know.  It's that it's unprofessional, in the same way if I spoke that way while teaching would be; I can think of a great many behaviours which they clearly know about but which would be inappropriate in a classroom (or indeed any other formal setting).  It would be against the code of conduct of the three schools that I teach in as well as common sense and decency.

Do you have kids?

not yet

maybe it's possible to just ask for their excuse for this impropriety and just turn it into a joke so they can laugh about it instead of feeling guilt or discomfort, compensating for that by telling them that despite such minor inconvenience they can learn something really interesting and useful
and even to go on calling it bitcrusher which is its proper name instead of bitfucker

If it's a big problem then it's quite easy to "fix" this with a hex editor. Just search the .dll file for the text and replace it with something else the same length, the plug-in won't care.

Hi Claes

As you're fine with that, that's what I've done.  All of my classes absolutely LOVE the plugin, they had found other samplers simultaneously over-complex and yet limiting.  They can all get a sound working quickly and easily with shortcircuit, and then spend a lot of time playing around with the modulation options; some of them have come up with some astounding work in just a matter of weeks.

LXNDR - Believe me, if I thought I could, I would do.  Most parents wouldn't see it that way, and it would be very difficult to argue the point!
